Yesterday was a tense day, as we had been expecting Jason would be laid off again. He made it through this round, but thanks to the amazing thing that is labor unions in the 21st century, there is the opportunity for a laid off union employee to take Jason's job. (Jason was required to join the union in order to take this job, so basically he's paying the union to help some other guy take his job away from him. Good deal!)
Anyway, to celebrate having group health insurance, we asked our babysitter to come early, and Jason and I saw the Harry Potter movie.
Unfortunately, Friday matinees must be when all the crazies come out. The theater was nearly empty when we took our seats, yet another couple came in and sat RIGHT next to us. Who does that? Who dares to break the tacit understanding of assured clear distance?
We got up and moved back a row, so they took our seats, and then the man made strange moaning noises through the entire movie. I don't know if it was because Hermione has gotten so damn hot, or if he just makes guttural noises of enjoyment all the time, but it was so frequent that I kept wondering if he was actually on a telephone call and I was hearing his listening noises.
And the woman announced, "I knew that was gonna happen," at one point. Really? Did you? How did you guess??? Was it the ominous music, or the fact that you read it in the book? Publishers need to start making "WARNING: SPOILERS INSIDE!" dust jackets for all printed material.

When it comes to children and pets, I can be extremely patient, and I
confess to being rather proud of this trait. A lot of people tire of my
daughter M’s ...

I'm very sorry for your movietime pain and suffering. Now about me....
ReplyDeleteI had a date night tonight! We left our kids in the care of a teenager! First time ever staying with a non-grandma! They were both asleep and well when we arrived just now. Wonder upon wonders!
I just had to share this. Now, I'm off to make some guttural noises.
So glad Jason did not lose his job. As for the movie guy: Isn't the public weird? We have a saying around here: "I like people, it's humanity I can't stand."

ReplyDeleteToo right, mate.
I hate unions. They are ruining Ohio. There are NO unions in Texas and they are so much better off for it. When I was teaching there we paid NO extra fees unless we wanted to join a teachers' association. In Ohio I'd be paying for $100 in union fees. For what? I made more in Texas than I would have here as a 1st yr teacher. Okay, opinions aside, I pray for God's provision in your life and that he keeps his job so y'all don't have to suffer through that AGAIN!!!
ReplyDeleteI hate to state the obvious, but a couple in a dark movie theater + the man moaning = possible hand job. Ick. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI hope Jason keeps his job.
