addressing some significant political issues

Not really. Really I just couldn't think of a title that didn't involve the word "pussy" and I don't want that to pop up on the blogrolls of non-disgusting blogs. Because I'm writing about cats again.

Thanks to your advice, Viv, I have Isabelle locked away on half of the basement, and Mr. Nick is out and roaming. Once again, Nick has no problems with the younger cats, at all. Apparently something about Isabelle incenses him -- probably the fact that she was really aggressive with him when she first arrived. Whoopsie!

To answer the questions of other cat fanciers, we have four cats. Mr. Nick is 11 years old and I've had him since he was a kitten. Getting rid of him isn't an option. He is actually the ideal cat -- he is gentle and patient with the kids, doesn't scratch the furniture, uses his litter box, etc. He is fixed. He has been around many other cats and Isabelle is the only one he's had real problems with. Mr. Nick doesn't photograph well because he is black with yellow eyes, and doesn't care for my shenanigans with the camera.

Isabelle is 2 years old, and also fixed. She has been here since January 3. She started off aggressive with Nick, then got the crap scared out of her. She is aggressive with the younger cats too, but less so when Nick is locked away and she isn't so tense. She has pooped and peed everywhere and it stresses me out to no end. She also foregoes the scratching post for my furniture. WHY?????? Ugh. And she can't decide whether she wants to be in or out of my office. She has many annoying habits. But, she is very very sweet and gentle and affectionate, and if we can work out the issue of Nick terrifying her to this degree, everything else is doable.

Rex is Isabelle's kitten. He's 5 months old. Also fixed. Adorable. Fun. Good about the litter box and the scratching post and all the other cats. He always smells a bit like poop though. I am working up the nerve to give him a bath.

Daisy, also called Jingles, is 4 months old. Not yet fixed, because I stupidly got her from Craigslist rather than a shelter. She and Rex are best pals and she doesn't seem to mind his body odor. She is also good with the litter box and scratching post and all the other cats. She looks less boogery now than she does in her photo.

  1. The No-Scratch sprays they have work wonders and they don't harm the furniture...at least not my furniture. Good luck!

  2. Not sure if anyone else may have mentioned it, the screaming/bouncing baby is cutting my time and patience short, but Feliway, it plugs into the wall and mellows out the cats with Pheremones. It's great for cats who are... difficult.

  4. Oh, sweet furry babies. I love animals. Hope you can get things straight between Mr. Nick and Isabelle. It took my cat over a year to get over the dog. Now they love each other.

  6. Whoa! Apparently life got a lot easier or something because I had no idea you had gotten another cat, let alone 3 more. Are they all yours to keep, you're not fostering?

  7. I second (triple?) the feliway/pheromone recommendations. We used that while living in a 1 bed/small bath apt which technically did not allow pets. Our two cats could not handle the litterbox proximity to their food.

In retrospect, I should go buy some more. Since July we've been integrating the cats with my MIL's dog. Not very successfully, alas.

  8. I also have four cats and my boyfriend has two. They all have their own little personality issues. It is going to be really interesting when we attempt to integrate all of them into one household later this year. I'm glad he has spare bedrooms.

    Mine are:
    Nutmeg
    Mazzy
    Sebastian
    Fluffy

    His are:
    Morris
    Tiger

    I love them all.
