Apparently it worked for me to call Doom's bluff this morning, because Miss A arrived home from school in one piece, and she just fell asleep on the sofa after drama around an inability to fall asleep. I'm so glad I've passed off my insomnia because I couldn't take another night of that.
Now I'll update you on the latest cat-related drama.
Apparently Mr. Nick is so terrifying to Isabelle that she loses control of her bowels and bladder. After we witnessed this and everything snapped into place like the ending of "Sixth Sense," we observed more closely and found that, indeed, when Nick charges her she poops.
So, we confined Mr. Nick to one part of the basement, and Isabelle had no accidents. We tried letting him out again, and she peed on Haney's coat. That was just the most notable place. She pooped other places... I am happy to have wood floors.
Poor Isabelle.
So we're surrendering her back to the shelter we adopted her from. This sucks. The kids are sad. We are sad, but I am refusing to think much about it and we remind each other how crappy it must be for her to be that frightened all the time. And of course, Mr. Nick has spent much of January locked away, so it's not good for him either.
I feel terrible.
She's such a sweet girl, loves the kids, follows us around, comes to her name, waits to be invited before hopping into one's lap, keeps me company in my office...
Crap.
This is a depressing topic so I'm going to think of something more fun to write about instead.

When it comes to children and pets, I can be extremely patient, and I
confess to being rather proud of this trait. A lot of people tire of my
daughter M’s ...

Is Mr. Nick fixed? What about Isabelle? Believe it or not, I had this very same problem with Foxy and Toby...having Fox fixed solved the problem. The other thing you can try is leaving Isabelle in a small room with food and a litter box, and Mr. Nick roaming. If you leave them like that for a week before reintroducing them, that fixes it too sometimes. By letting her roam and locking up Nick, it may have made him more aggressive toward his new enemy. Every now and again, Toby gets the urge to scare Foxy (er, shitless?) but, his favorite trick is to hide on top of the door to the bathroom where I keep the box. When he launches himself down on Fox, he is already in the right spot or close to it, and so it isn't much of a problem, and it is sort of funny, unless you're Foxy.
ReplyDeleteAw, she sounds like such a sweet cat...must be hard to think about giving her up. I'm a fairly new follower of your blog and I have to ask, how many cats do you have? Sounds like a lot! My husband with his severe allergies would be in hell. I tell him all the time that if he really loves me he'll get allergy shots and I can get a cat. No luck so far...
ReplyDeleteYou should totally make a spin off blog with cat based episodes. You could call it All My Pussys.
ReplyDeleteAww, that sucks. Maybe you should keep her and send Mr Nick back!
ReplyDeletePoor Isabelle! Don't send her back to the shelter... She's better off having a home and learning to get used to the other cat than becoming homeless again. She sounds like a sweetie - sounds like Mr. Nick is the one who needs to learn a few things!
