I have no idea why I haven't been posting. I had some big work projects but normally I don't let that get in my way. I gotta get back in the saddle again, though. Since I have no ideas and no plans for this post, you may want to grab a stiff drink to help with your enjoyment of it.
Miss A is really really sassy lately. She's been grounded a lot. "Grounded" seems like a really silly punishment name for a 7 year old but I'm not sure what else to call it. She's also started babytalking. I want to punch her in her fool head. She says things like, "Me like playing outside!" and "Me want a snack!" and "Pay attention to me!" that completely infuriate me. Some of my kids are sick right now, so last night I had them all laying in my bed under the electric blanket, watching shows. It was cozy. She begged me to let them watch one more show. That took until 9, but there was no school today so I decided to go for it.
When it was over, she was a snotty brat and I told her that she would be grounded today. She told me it was my fault, because I couldn't expect her to be polite when she was so tired.
WTF??
Then this morning she told Jason it was my fault she was grounded today, because I let her stay up too late.
Oh, I am so looking forward to the teen years. I can't even imagine. It is going to be the greatest blog fodder ever.
It is 8:31 and I put the children to bed around 8:15 and now I hear a chorus of laughing coughing assholes getting ready to come down here and bother me. Oh here they come. Athena "hitted" Phe's face with both of her hands, then ran in her room. This is so awesome. She's supposed to be in bed. Tell me blog world, what is her punishment?

When it comes to children and pets, I can be extremely patient, and I
confess to being rather proud of this trait. A lot of people tire of my
daughter M’s ...

her punishment...is to have a little girl just like her when she grows up. hahahaha. unfortunately, that will take awhile to happen and actually be "punishment".
ReplyDeleteyou need a night off! want to come over? : )
Becca went through that stage around 7 or 8 where she would say "me want to go outside" and stuff like that. Thankfully it did not last that long. She still talks in a baby voice once in a while and it drives me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you that I really appreciate how candid you are about your kids annoying you. I feel like that about my kids sometimes (okay at least once a day) and then I feel really bad because I think that I only feel that way because they are only my stepkids and that "real" parents must never feel that way about their biological kids that they actually gave gave birth to. So thanks, because I waste a lot of time feeling guilty.
My 7 year old daughter does the baby talk thing too, makes me want to spork my ears out.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha, no idea on your punishment but it drives me nuts when my 3.5 year old busts out the baby talk (lots lately). I can only imagine how annoying it is 3 years later. Not looking forward to all the sass that I already see coming around the bend....
ReplyDeleteI too have a baby talking 7 year old. For awhile I had her wear a necklace of soap bubbles around her neck and lick it every time she baby talked. That worked for a few days until she started to like it and licked it on her own. So, I don't recommend that one. As for the babytalk/sass combo. I would put her to bed at 7p letting her know that since I "let" her stay up so late and she is also acting like a baby she can now be treated like one. Shot in the dark here, but good luck.
ReplyDeleteHALARIOUS!
ReplyDeleteMy 5yo daughter and 8yo son JUST started the babytalk thing out of the blue a couple weeks ago. I don't remember the threats I made, but they weren't kind. They finally stopped. I told them I didn't care if they continued talking that way at school, as long as I didn't have to listen to it. I'm sure that taught them something sociopathic.
ReplyDeleteFirehose!
ReplyDeletei'm hoping that the ability to turn my hearing aid OFF will get me through the teenage years. i already use it now... 'uh, the battery is dead... i can't hear you...' and the oldest is 4. seriously. genius. want one?
ReplyDeleteYou give yourself too little credit. This was a comic work of art! On the positive side, I'm prety sure you will never have to worry about someone pushing A around...that girl will know how to stick up for herself, for sure! One day, she will harness these powers for good and successfully take over the world... no doubt.
ReplyDeleteMy twins turn 6 next week and I thought maybe I would run out of blog material as a result. You've just put to ease my fears. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. My oldest is almost 11 and thinks all Disney shows are gospel...ie: parents are stupid babbling baffoons.
ReplyDeleteShe rolls her eyes and walks away in the middle of a sentence. It makes me irate and she knows it.
We had 3 days off of school for snow and now we have a long weekend for President's day and I'm realizing why animals occassional eat their young.
Laughing coughing assholes? The high point of my weekend. Thank you.
