one gal's trash: miscellaneous barware

To reward myself for being such a stellar mom, I hit the thrift store on Mother's Day weekend. I scored a fantastic Kromex ice bucket, complete with a nifty lid. Here is Jason displaying the ice bucket chilling our MDay champagne. Yes, we drink champagne out of Shrek glasses from McDonald's. It's better than a shoe, right?

It was $5.

I also bought a set of numbered glasses. I told Jason it was because they will be so handy when we have many people over, but really it was because I loved the way the numbers looked, and I loved the flowers winding around the numbers.
They are numbered 1-12. I think I paid $11 for the set, which is a little steep.
Jason thinks they're great.
He really loves it when I bring home fantastic items from the thrift store, garage sales, or other people's trash piles.

I hit a thrift store with my friend Christy this weekend, and it was very exciting and they had a set of glasses featuring each of the twelve days of Christmas. I yearned for them, but then the idea of changing out glasses at Christmas is too tiring for me. Have you found any treasures lately?

  3. Bird cage at a garage sale for $5, it was in awesome shape, came with food bowls, perch, and a couple of toys. It made me happy.

  4. I cannot believe you would pass up the 12 Days of Christmas glasses. I want them...without even having seen them. Of course, I'm a freak show that swaps out all my dishes (including the kids' plastic wear) for Christmas time. My thrifty find (actually on Craigslist)...an antique wicker sofa and rocking chair with cushions for $80! Of course, my dog chewed the bottom of the couch, but it's still functional.

  6. I really need to start spending more time thrift shopping. I'm sure there are some treasures awaiting me, but it always seems like other people find great things there and I never do.

  7. My husband recently brought home two really great garden chairs he found for $5 each. Except they have no seats. So we just set them next to the other five seat-less garden chairs he's brought home over the past few years that are still waiting for seats. Sigh.

  8. I am a thrift store ADDICT. I hit them on my lunch hours at work. Tuesday I found four 10x10 shadow boxes. They were only 99 cents each because no one knew what they were.
