butt strep redux

Blogworld, by now you're well aware that my household is home to a wide variety of rare and exotic bacteria. We're the Galapagos Island of germs.

One time, I worried my children had pinworms. Then I learned they had butt strep. Then we had a lot more strep. And here's where our latest bout of butt strep began, in June. Pretty much G's face (as well as his ass) has been a disaster since then. I took him to the dr today and he was diagnosed with about 7000 different infections. Pretty much he's being treated for everything shy of cancer.

We have some hydrocortisone cream in case his face is just exczema. Exzema. Eczema. Ah, there we go. Anyway. His face is totally not eczema, unless his eczema coincidentally flares up right before he spikes a fever and gets an upset stomach. (I suppose that's possible.) But I'm applying it anyway.

We have some bactroban or somesuch, in case he has folliculitis on his booty. Or "buttocks."

The dr took a swab of his, uh, perianal zone to determine whether this is in fact The Butt Strep.

And he's now on some oral antibiotics to kill whatever staph or strep is *really* causing all this. And I think we all know who the culprit is. I'm looking at you, strep.

Apparently butt strep (aka perianal strep) can be difficult to clear from one's system. I would not have guessed that.

  1. My boys used to get the butt strep frequently and then it would morph into face strep. Glad to see those days end! I ended up making sure they all used separate bath & face towels and washcloths.

  2. Were you trying to summon my Forrest Gump voice by putting the word "buttocks" in quotes? Because you did. :)

    Hope G is better soon!

  3. My son was diagnosed with butt strep today. He recently got over guttate psoriasis because of strep throat infection a couple months ago. And now this from strep throat. I knew strep throat was bad, but who knew it could cause all of these problems...?! When they gave your child medicine, was it oral medicine or a cream for the butt? Just wondering...
