the one craft that turned out well

I got the idea from Dollar Store Crafts last year, but my holiday cheer fizzled before we ever got to it.
Griffin's and Haney's

Miss A's and Phe's

Group effort, and one Haney and I made together
We made these for the kids' grandmas and great grandmas, and we'll keep the colorful unframed one. I glued the fabric ahead of time and traced circles onto each one, then provided the glue and buttons. It's nice to have a kid craft actually turn out nice enough that someone might display it.

Today the school nurse called around 10:30 because Miss A was in her office for the 3rd day in a row, complaining of a headache and stomach ache. I told her about Miss A's miraculous recovery each day when she gets off the bus. The nurse sent her back to class, but told me I should make her a dr. appt. if she continues to complain of these symptoms.

Then the nurse called back at 11:00 because the boys' teacher had sent both of them to the office, because G's eyes were red. The nurse suspected pinkeye. Not sure why the teacher sent P down... anyway, Jason went and collected all three kids and I took them to the MinuteClinic, which is a lot cheaper than a visit to our pediatrician. Quality of care, schmality of care.

The MinuteClinic CNP said G probably has viral conjunctivitis and wrote a prescription for me to fill only if his symptoms get worse, but said to keep both boys home tomorrow just in case.

All the kids are feeling SO AMAZING and have SO MUCH ENERGY!!!!!! And I am out an entire day of work and trying not to feel worried about it. Deadline is Wednesday.

So! I just fed them all a snack of assorted junk food, and now we're going to have a Christmas movie marathon and possibly make pipe cleaner and bead candy canes. Come on, bedtime!

a post where i ask for advice

I posted over at How Do You Do It about how I think the boys' school records might have gotten mixed up and now I'm all confused and worried over how to handle it without insulting anyone...

i have built the best fire in the history of suburban fireplace fires

Blogworld, I have nothing to say. I haven't been posting because I have a massive work project right now [which is a weird commission based pay thing meaning I won't see any $$ from the work I'm doing now for an indefinite amount of time] and I'm tired of sitting and writing and thinking.

But.

I've been making suburban fireplace fires in earnest since early 2009. My dad taught me how sometime before then, and I had a few pathetic failures and a long period of mixed results attempts, and then once Jason went away to work starting in December 2008, I practiced daily. Now I am pretty kickass at building a fire. I don't mean to brag or make you feel bad, blogworld. I'm just good at it.

But typically my fires are more for cheer than warmth. They warm the immediate area surrounding the fireplace, and effectively dry mittens and boots, but they couldn't be counted on to sustain us through a cold snap if the power went out.

UNTIL NOW.

Somehow, tonight, I built the most furious inferno ever known to a suburban fireplace. It roared. It crackled. It heated the room an entire degree. I never want to let it go out. I want my role in the family to be fire-tender. I'll sleep down here and maintain the fire 24/7.

In other news, remember how every December I do insane crafts with my kids each night, until about the 4th when I lose my mind? Well, apparently the combination of 300mg of Wellbutrin + my kids' ages is just the thing to make daily crafts manageable. We have done something every day so far, and one of the crafts turned out really cute! I'll post pictures sometime. Maybe tomorrow. Which is when I also will maybe get my act together and mail out the socks to the one sock winner who has given me her address.
THE DAYS ARE LONG, BUT THE YEARS ARE SHORT.
